The technology surprises the Mossad

Robert Baer (ex-agent of the CIA and author of the book "See not Evil" on whom they were based, vaguely, to do the movie "Syriana") inspects in an article the operation of the Mossad in Dubai with which they eliminated Mahmoud al Mabhouh, and is thinking about discovering what is what worked badly.

His persons in charge managed to murder to the target, but certainly they were not trying to leave so many tracks and that the photos of a score of agents were appearing in newspapers of half a world.

If of what there was talking each other age to murder simply the Hamás leader, they might have done it of other forms, for example out of the hotel, and without leaving tracks. They were claiming that he was turning out to be dead and that nobody had the most minimal test to accuse Israel. Not so much for the international aftereffect, which also, but because that would create suspense in the Hamás leaders on the origin of the threat. In addition to the habitual accusations to Israel, they would have to think other hypothesis. In Middle East, nobody walks scarcely of enemies.

Baer thinks that it is the technology the one that made be derailed the original plans of the Mossad. They did not realize that the alertness technology has been perfected up to such a level that it is very difficult not to leave any track, analogical or digital, at the disposal of the authorities.

The Ist dog only speculate about where exactly the hit went wrong. But I would guess the assassins failed to account for the marked advance in technology. Not only were there closed-circuit TV in the for a three-quarter bed hotel where Mr. Mabhouh was assassinated and at the airport, but Dubai you have at its fingertips the best security consultants in the world. The consultants merely had to run advanced software through all of digital Dubaís dates before, during and after the assassination to connect the assassins in steal and it pleases.

For instance, to search of all cellular phone calls made in and around the hotel where Mr. Mabhouh was assassinated would show who had called the same number - reportedly to command post in Vienna. It would only be to matter then of tracking when and where calls were made from these phones, tying them to hotels where the team was operating or staying.

Beyond the murders that take place in a war stage, like the elimination of leading talibans or of To The Qaeda in Pakistan and Afghanistan with not crewed planes, Baer believes that the typical operations of the secret services are every day more difficult precisely for this intrusion of the technology. Every day is more difficult to kill the people of handmade form.

Another thing is that the reputation of the Mossad - nothing is eternal - is overvalued. Almost all his spies' network in Lebanon has gone away to the garete. This is a topic of the one that the Israeli press only has informed, and not very much, quoting foreign sources. Sign of that the military censoring is working by the piece.
