Up to where can the war movies come

Abu Muqawama puts to us the beginning of this marvelous movie that is "The violent ones of Kelly" to demonstrate that the war movies do not have to be realists to be..., that, marvelous.

There are some articles and comments that they quote to North American soldiers destined in Iraq and Afghanistan that question the movie "The Hurt Locker", one of the favorites in the Oscars of this year. All this has a reek of revenge of last hour against a movie that does not have a clear ideological message. As already not estila to do things as "Green berets", with that John Wayne tried to whiten the war of Vietnam, in these cases to assume that a movie of this topic does not have ideological load means that it is not clearly antiwarlike, as if they it were different on the war of Iraq released in the last three years.

They all smashed in box office, although it is necessary to aim that they were quite bad, except "In the Elah vale". And the last one was not also going to receive applauses with this tremendous final scene in which Tommy Lee Jones hoists of the reverse the flag of the USA to avert the anger that he feels therefore the Army or the war did with his deceased son (briefly, to turn it into a prostitute's son).

The case is that we are in period of the Oscars, what means that the campaigns of dirty war against the candidates rivals, that not desmerecen nothing of those who are done in the real world, they are working to full yield. And if there is some movie of Harvey Weinstein got into the career of the awards (in this case, "Inglorious Basterds"), we can give for fact that letters with four pens are appearing in the mailboxes of half a Hollywood.

The script of "The Hurt Locker" belongs to a journalist freelance that was fixed in a military unit dedicated to deactivating the bombs and explosive pitfalls that the Iraqi rebellion sowed throughout the country. The critics have praised in general his verisimilitude, although it is slightly probable that some of them has been neutralizing explosives close to Ramadi. With that they refer to that the movie is credible, that it does not violate that that is called in English "the suspension of disbelief". Namely we are ready to believe authentically incredible things when we see a movie, but whenever they have a plot logic inside the plot of the movie.

It works of different form in every cinematographic genre. Obviously, if we see "The star wars" and there is a type as Darth Vader before which some of them suffer sudden and lethal asthma attacks, we are not going to worry because the shots of the weapon are heard in the space. Once one enters the world of the fantasy, the laws of the physics matter less (to a certain extent). But if someone says that a crewed ship is going to penetrate into the heart of the Earth to attack the nucleus with nuclear weapons, well, this is already to go too much background.

The military men those who do not like "The Hurt Locker" (curiously, Robert Gates does not think the same) say that it is not a faithful portrait of his work. They are those who risk his life to finish with the IED before these irritate them in pieces. They are not cowboys, they are not crazy, are professional that take his work with the whole coldness that a human being can show to 40 temperature grades and before a bomb that, if he is wrong, will turn it into flour in a moment.

Certainly, only it was missing. If it was not like that, some time ago that would be cold meat. The protagonist of the movie is another thing. Disfunctional, they call it. Therefore, it is like a goat. He does not want to die (the suicide of a shot would be a cleaner and less bothersome option), but he has adopted an attitude that he makes doubt on his mental stability. It has escaped so many times that begins believing that it is infallible.

In the war, the valor and the madness they are separated by a very thin thread. The only ones that are really sane are the cowards. The armies do not promote this class of lucidity. They would remain without welded very quickly. Before some missions, the soldiers would say: I believe that this time I happen, my captain, of this one we cannot go out alive and it does not long to me that the intestines leave my body. They have a horrible aspect, but I have taken esteem to them.

Neither it is convenient for them that the troop loses completely the head. The one who should doubt that must only remember the high number of officials' casualties in Vietnam died to hands of his soldiers. They even put a name: fragging.

"The Hurt Locker" goes so far as up to where it can come. One takes a few licenses and reflects it it surrounds that it is possible to be of going on to another side in a war, although you are still alive. So that the movies movies were completely real, they would have to include the smell (slightly quite unviable) and show such a grade of violence that they would be unbearable of seeing. It is one of the reasons, obviously not the only one, for that the wars keep on existing.
